The following values aim
both to promote and protect each individual resident’s
rights to:
• PRIVACY A Resident’s right to be left alone or
undisturbed and free from intrusion or public attention
into their own affairs.
• DIGNITY A Resident’s right to recognition of their
intrinsic value as a person regardless of circumstances and
respect for their uniqueness.
• INDEPENDENCE A Resident’s right to self-determination
together with support to take calculated risks.
• CHOICE A Resident’s right to select from a range of
options, including the right to help them make informed
choices.
NB: By “informed choice” the registration authority means
that providers of care should take whatever steps are
necessary to ensure that residents have as full an
understanding as possible of the implications of each
option.
• FULFILMENTS A Resident’s right to expect support or
freedom to realise personal aspiration and abilities in all
aspects of daily life.
• RIGHTS A Resident’s right to the maintenance of all
entitlements associated with citizenship and the rights of
fair and just treatment.
